Women of Moto Does Halifax

We had a very limited timeframe to do our Eastern Tour— with events and photoshoots planned in three provinces (Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick). We pretty much had everything set in stone until we got an email from Kaitlyn Hagen shortly after launching! There was something about her authenticity and genuine interest in our project. She wanted to host an event for us and introduce us to the Halifax motorcycle scene, so we didn’t hesitate rearranging our entire timeline to fit Nova Scotia into the mix!

Within days we had the poster designed and she did all the ground work and took them to all of the local shops and motorcycle dealers to help spread the word. She had also secured some wicked sponsors who donated raffle prizes.

The morning of the event we had woken up at the cutest Air bnb in Yarmouth, NS. According to Maps we had a 3.5 hour ride to get to Halifax. We decided to leave ourselves a lot of extra time and take the “scenic lighthouse route”. A local man had told us that would add 5 hours onto our trip; but being overly optimistic westerners we figured he was just over exaggerating. He wasn’t. After about 4 hours on the scenic route we realized we hadn’t got very far at all! Not to mention the heat wave we had been experiencing had ended and we were putting on whatever layers we had to stay warm. So we found the highway and high-tailed to to Halifax with less than an hour to spare before the event. Our “scenic” trip was 9 hours that day!!

So we roll into the back parking lot of Pro Skates and there was Kaitlyn! It was so awesome to finally meet her in person after all of the FaceTimes, phone calls, texting and planning. We quickly dropped our stuff off at our Air bnb and made it back JUST in time for Women of Moto Does Halifax! Right at the start time there were bikes rolling in! All type of bikes from dual sport, cafes, cruisers and sports bikes.

There was free pizza provided by Yeah Yeah’s (and garlic fingers with donair sauce.. it’s a thing and you don’t question it!), drinks and the chillest vibe! By the end of the night there had to have been over 50 people there; and the most impressive part is that Kaitlyn only knew a handful of them!! She rallied her city’s moto scene for us and absolutely killed it! We were so impressed with what she accomplished and the event she put on with pretty short notice. We are super grateful to her; as well as everyone who came out (and brought their dogs!) and showed their support of our vision.

Kaitlyn is exactly the kind of woman we need representing this sport; so keep an eye out for her!! Also.. keep an eye out for the profile piece we are doing on her— we couldn’t pass up on that opportunity! So to cap things off, a huge thank you to Kaitlyn for organizing EVERYTHING!! Pro Skates for hosting us! And Brixton, Deus Ex Machina, Red Wing Heritage, Stance, Pro Cycle, Privateers Harley-Davidson, Sarah Burnish, Tiger Distro and Timebomb Trading for sponsoring and supporting not only Women of Moto, but the amazing Canada-wide motorcycle scene!
